Life Skills & Well-being; including Relationships Education, Sex Education & Health Education
At Bignold Primary School & Nursery we want our children.
Our RSHE curriculum at Bignold will ensure children and young people are encouraged to understand the importance of stable, loving relationships, respect, love, and care. It also enables young people to make responsible and informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
RSHE is learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up as well as relationships, sexuality and sexual health in a manner appropriate to the age and level of understanding of the pupils. RSHE equips children and young people with accurate information, positive values and the skills to enjoy healthy, safe and positive relationships, and to take responsibility for their health and wellbeing both now and in the future.
RSHE is part of our wider teaching of personal, social, health & economics (PSHE). We believe that our children, in order to be as prepared as possible for their next steps in life, need to learn about being part of a wider community and making a valuable contribution to their world.
At Bignold, we call this our Life Skills & Well-being curriculum and it includes the following elements:
- Personal, Social, Health & Economics (PSHE);
- Relationships and Sex Education (RSE);
- Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural education (SMSC);
- British Values.
Since the first National Lockdown in March 2020, the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on many of our pupils and their families has been profound. We know, from working closely with our children and families, that the pandemic has caused great uncertainty and that this has directly impacted on well-being and mental health. This, in turn, can affect children's learning behaviours in the classroom and their relationships with one another.
At Bignold, we want to provide our children with a nurturing environment where they can learn to build positive relationships and are taught the information they need to make good choices about their future lives.
