THE BIG IDEAS OF DESIGN TECHNOLOGY:

Our goal for Design Technology education is that children are able to apply their knowledge, experience and practical skills to design soloutions to real-world problems, through the 'Big Ideas':

• Skills and expertise- I learn and apply practical and technical skills
• Design- I use creativity, experience and experimentation to design new products and solve problems; and 
• Evaluate- I evaluate my designs and products in order to improve them

At Bignold we provide a design technology curriculum that builds on knowledge, skills and experience over time from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to the National Curriculum.  Children at Bignold are provided with regular opportunities to experiment, investigate, design, create and problem solve.  Sometimes design technology lessons may link to wider curriculum learning and themes but where possible teachers will teach design technology as a distinct subject for clearer progression and more rigorous learning.
