Bignold's PE blog

Welcome to Bignold's Sport blog:

June 2024:

Year 5 & 6 Sports Day @ the UEA

In keeping with our established Bignold tradition, our keen Year 5 and 6 pupils travelled to the UEA Sports Park for a morning of competition and teamwork. All did their best, with standout moments with a 4m long jump from a Y5 boy, 35m throw from a Y6 boy and a clutch win in the 4x100m relay for team Fire!

Overall winners: Air (1st), Fire (2nd), Earth (3rd), Water (4th)

NSSP Pantathlon

8 children from across Key Stage 2 were selected to represent the school in a range of throwing events, taking place at the UEA. Following a morning of grit and determination, Bignold walked away in first place, with GOLD medals to show for their efforts! We're proud of you all!

Sports Leader training

20 of our Year 5 children put themselves forwards to train as Sports Leaders, a role that they will carry into Year 6 from September. All have been keen to get underway, with great games offered to some of our youngest children in Key Stage 1.

May 2024:

Healthy Week

The 3rd annual event was a great success, with children enjoying Tai-chi, Yoga, Quidditch, Archery, Trampolining and Kayaking.

The feedback we received from our external providers was glowing (as ever!) praising the enthusiasm of all pupils.

Reception Multi-Skills festival at Easton College, c/o NSSP

Children from Reception participated in a range of sports-based activities that developed their strength and coordination. It was a great afternoon and the children were full of enthusiasm, with one commenting "This is amazing!"

April 2024:

Community Sport Foundation's Primary Football League @ The Nest

Just 7 of Bignold's hardiest footballers attended the final meeting of this competition, placing again in League 1.

Across the 3 games in the afternoon, Bignold recorded results of 4-2 (loss), 0-0 (draw) and 1-1 (draw).

We showed grit, determination and real sportsmanship - even in the face of defeat. Well done to all of you!

March 2024:

Norwich Primary Schools Football Association fixture v Horsford.

Our furthest 'away' fixture got off to a quick start with a goal from Horsford, before Bignold quickly levelled.

Bignold followed up with a quick chip to make it 2, but Horsford doubled down and buried an equaliser just before half time. Both teams came out strong in the 2nd half, with a real battle in midfield. A beautiful strike made it 3-2 to Bignold into the final minutes. A charge from Horsford and a retaken penalty - which found the back of the net - brought it to 3-all.

The final whistle blew just 90 seconds later, earning a hard fought draw at 3-3.

February 2024:

Norwich Primary Schools Football Association fixture v Old Catton.

A succession of quick goals in the 1st half saw the visitors quickly take (and build) the lead. With some new players in the Bignold squad for this game the dynamic was always going to be a little different, but these children were keen to give their best and the team began to work well in the 2nd half.

Final score: 4-1 to Old Catton

January 2024:

Community Sport Foundation's Primary Football League @ The Nest

10 of Bignold's best footballers attended the competition, placing in League 1.

Across the 3 games in the afternoon, Bignold recorded results of 1-1 (draw), 3-1 (loss) and 4-0 (win).

Well played all!

November 2023:

Norwich Primary Schools Football Association fixture v Avenue Jnr.

The best game of the season so far for Bignold, with the entire team excelling as a unit.

Honourable mention to Ahmad, to seemed to be able to be in 2 places at once for most of the 2nd half!

Final score: 3-2 to Avenue Jnr.

October 2023:

Norwich Primary Schools Football Association fixture v Colman Jnr.

Another tough game for Bignold, this time away at Colman Jnr school.

Bignold found playing on a sloping pitch a new challenge, but rose to this well.

Final score: 8-2 to Colman Jnr.

Norwich Primary Schools Football Association fixture v Queen's Hill.

A well played home game for Bignold, who welcomed some new players into the squad.

Final score: 6-3 to Queen's Hill.

September 2023:

Norwich Primary Schools Football Association fixture v Poringland.

This was a tough home game for us, as a new team coming up against an experienced Poringland side. Nevertheless, Bignold's players dug deep and there were some excellent passages of play.

Final score: 9-1 to Poringland

July 2023:

We're a Gold school!

Bignold has officially been awarded the Gold mark by the Sainsbury's School Games scheme.

We're so proud of this award and hope to hit the same standard again next year...
