Friday 2nd July - an update from Bignold

Newsletter - to come out on Monday

Dear parents & carers,

I would like to thank you all for your support during what has been a very difficult week. I can appreciate that the closure of Year Group Bubbles and the recent surge in local COVID infection rates will have caused concern.

I would like to repeat that, following extensive involvement, from the local Outbreak Management Team, the public health advisors were confident that we were seeing was a cluster of cases linked to the spread of the virus within the community. They were entirely satisfied that our school has robust control measures in place and were very complimentary about how speedily we had sought advice from them when cases were reported.

The key message from Public Health England is that the Delta variant of COVID-19 is more transmissible and that it spreads easily within households and when different households mix inside. Good ventilation and thorough handwashing are critical to helping minimise the risk of it spreading. Here at Bignold, we make sure that all our teaching spaces are well ventilated with doors and windows left open. Hand washing/sanitising is encouraged with regular opportunities for this throughout the school day. We also ensure that spot cleaning of hard surfaces is carried out regularly.

I am genuinely devastated that this recent surge in infections has had such an impact on our end of term - it is particularly disappointing that the Circus Big Top days have had to be canceled. However, I am confident that, with your ongoing support, we will do everything we can to make sure that our children are prepared for their next steps in September.

As I am sure you can appreciate, the recent cases have driven workload so the usual end-of-the-week newsletter will come out on Monday. This will contain information about class teaching for the next academic year.

With my best wishes to you all,

Chris Newman

Head of School
